Gulcher: Post-Rock Cultural Pluralism in America (1649-1993)
Published in Paperback by Citadel Pr (January, 1991)
Authors: Richard Meltzer and Lester Bangs
Average review score:

Funniest book I've ever read
This was the funniest book I've ever read. I suppose you have to be able to remember something of the late 60's and early 70's to think so, but there you have it. If you get a huge kick out of Lester Bangs, you'll love this book. It's not all about music, tho, in case that's an issue.

the most influential book...ever!
After it was reissued in '91, "Gulcher" was the main spark that sent me down the wayward path of becoming a rock critic--a horribly self-destructive vocation that I am proud to have all but escaped from since. Foisted my copy of the book upon some so-called friend a couple years later...still waiting for its return. Memories of the book remain fond, though.

Have Not Been the Same: The Canrock Renaissance 1985-1995
Published in Paperback by ECW Press (August, 2001)
Authors: Michael Barclay, Jason Schneider, and Ian Andrew Dylan Jack
Average review score:

A Must-Have for any Canadian Rock Music Fan
This book is quite brilliant, Michael Barclay along with Ian A.D Jack and Jason Schneider have put together an amazing book which looks at various Canadian musicians between 1985-1995. I found this book great because it sort of shined light on a lot of amazing bands and individual musicians throughout this era that didn't have a source detailing their history, influence etc.

Being a big fan of Halifax bands as well (sloan, thrush hermit, etc.) I was very happy when i saw that the halifax scene or "underground" was given a very detailed account.

The histories of several bands were given full chapters such as The tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo and Sloan. The punk music scene in Western Canada was also given a spotlight. All-in-all any music fan would love this! I definetly do!

An excellent compendum
The bible on Canadian Rock is reverently written, and interesting through and through, chock full of fascinating information and in depth looks at the finest of the CanRock scene, including the oft-overlooked Sloan. Well worth reading.

Headbangers: The Worldwide Mega-Book of Heavy Metal Bands (Rock & Roll Reference Series, No 37)
Published in Hardcover by Popular Culture Ink (March, 1993)
Authors: Mark Hale, Ma Hale, and Thomas Schultheiss
Average review score:

LIKE METAL? BUY THIS!
You will never see a book like this again. Mark Hale has created the perfect manual to research metal history. This is the History of Metal, all meat no filler! This book also has some great promo photos of bands that a true fan of metal will enjoy

A Must for any metal collector.
I first saw this book at my local library back in 1995. I had to have one for myself. This book lists hard rock/heavy metal bands from the 60's to about 1991. it cross-references bands and their members and give record label and catalog number information. This is a must for any metal head. Do not bother with Martin Popoff's Heavy Metal Guide, it's very biased. This book just lists the facts as Mark Hale researched them. i recently showed it to Jon Schaffer of iced Earth and James Rivera of Helstar and they were very impressed. It's well worth the price.

Hello, I Lied
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (May, 1997)
Author: M. E. Kerr
Average review score:

M. E. Kerr's best yet!
Hello, I lied was the first "gay" book I ever read (had the courage to buy?) Reading it was a very powerful experience for me, and I re-read it several times so I could get a hold of all the emotions I felt after devoring it the first time. A truly touching story with real characters who aren't perfect that never deals in black and white Hello, I lied is a wonderful book, and one that I would recomend to any teen, especially if your gay or have a friend who is recently coming out. It's a honest book probably above all else.

A Great Book for any teenager!
I have read this book three times and still I love it! Every character in this book, from Lang, who is comfortable with his homosexuality but afraid of coming out to his friends, to the bitter ex-rock star Nevada, and the french Audrey Hepburn look alike Hugette who is sent to the states from France to distance her from her grape-picker boyfriend, are so human you feel a commection to them, even if you're not gay, rich, or a tennager. Just read this book!! You will not be dissapointed!

The Hendrix Experience
Published in Hardcover by Hamlyn (14 September, 1990)
Author: Mitch Mitchell
Average review score:

LOS SONIDOS QUE CREO JH FUERON VERDADEROS COLORS
NUNCA ANTES HABIA ESCUCHADO JH PERO EL SONIDO DE SU GUITARRA SEMEJABAN LOS TRUENOS DE LOS DIOSES, NOS TRANSPORTABA A OTRA PARTE, DONDE EL RECORDAR ESOS AÑOS DONDE OTRAS BUENAS AGRUPACIONES ESTABAN SONANDO MUY FUERTE EL ESTABA CREANDO NUEVOS SONIDOS QUE NINGUNA OTRA AGRUPACION A PODIDO IGUALAR.....

Best of the hendrix books..
The author, Mitch Mitchell was in a unique position to provide a sense of Hendrix as an artist. His interplay with Hendrix as a drummer was like that of the jazz greats ie. Charlie Parker/Max Roach. Lots of discription of the London music scene in the explosive sixties along with the movers and shakers who made it happen. The book's visuals were great with lots of unseen and hard to find pictures of the group, posters and other goodies. The author's mod image was so cool!

High Adventure in the Great Outdoors
Published in Paperback by Two Thirteen Sixty-One Pubns (December, 1996)
Authors: Henry Rollins and Chris Haskett
Average review score:

Soliace for those in need.
I remember back in 1991 reading this book while I was serving what was called an "in school suspension" I was in 10th grade. I do not think I understood all of it.. but I was captured by the powerful words. Some of what Rollins wrote about I would not understand until later on in my life. I still have the first printing of this book. It is ripped up and even has some blood stains on it in some places. I still pick this book up and try to imagine what it was like for him while he was writing this book. He was much younger than me and hardly famous.

I feel that of all of Henry Rollins work this one allows you to feel his deepest emotions. He had nothing to hide or water down. This was it. The guy lived in a toolshed in someones backyard while writing this book. Check it out.

Brutal Honesty
This is a fine book of writings by Henry Rollins. He shows us the world through his thoughts, ideas, and eyes. It is brutally honest and says what some only dare to even think.

Hot Rock (Mystery Files of Shelby Woo , No 3)
Published in Paperback by Minstrel Books (September, 1997)
Author: John Peel
Average review score:

It's a classic!
The style for this book is sort of classic: lots of suspects, lots of clues, and a main character who's probably looking at it from the wrong angle. I managed to "solve" this one because of a "clue" that wasn't even a clue! The culprit is none other than someone you most likely expected but, at the same time, didn't expect, and has a classic villain personality. A great read!

ITS REALLY EXCITING!
OK!so there was this meuseum where this gem or rock was stolen and the young detective tries to solve it !It was so interesting because there were a lot of clues that leads to something else and there is some danger in some place that can let you keep reading. So I advice you to read this book .Actually this is the most wonderful book in the series because it easy to understand you will not get tangled up with big words that you will still have to look up in the dictionary .It is also the best way if you can not find it in your local bookstore I also advice you to buy it here in AMAZON.COM!

How to Rock Your Baby
Published in Hardcover by Peachtree Publishers (March, 1997)
Authors: Sibley Fleming and John Amoss
Average review score:

Wonderful book for one year olds
This was our one year old's favorite book and is great for young babies. The best part for me was that it was full of things that I could act out while reading to our daughter. For example, at the beginning it shows the baby holding the book on her head, so I hold the book on my daughter's head, and she laughs. Then the mommy pats the baby on the back to burp her and bubbles come out, so I pat her on the back. Although bubbles don't come out, she points to the bubbles in the book and says "bubb-buu, bubb-buu!". There are things to imitate on almost every page.

The charming pictures are bright, colorful, and easy for little kids to recognize. Plus, the story is whimsical and fun. I hadn't heard of this book, but found it browsing around at a book store. It deserves to be much better known than it is. My only real complaint is that our daughter has torn out all the pages.

This is a great bed-time story
My 15 month old daughter loves having this book read to her before nap and bed-time. Her favorite part of the book is when the baby falls asleep "and begins to dream." She loves the pictures with the book, also. As she has gotten older, she has gone from pointing out just the baby to now pointing out the moon, the fish, the birds, and the tower clock. She usually knows when it is time for bed and starts shaking her head "NO" until we read the book together. She likes reading the book so much she will "read" it by herself during the day.

The Hunter's Vision: The Prehistoric Art of Zimbabwe
Published in Hardcover by University of Washington Press (July, 1995)
Author: Peter Garlake
Average review score:

Wonderful photographs, excellent tracings
Tons of beautiful tracings of prehistoric art and some beautiful photographs. The tracings are just as exciting as the photographs. I've barely glanced at the text, but it's an art book - who reads em?

marvelous compliation of ancient art
With 185 black-and-white figures and 36 color photographs, this book is a treasure trove of ancient art. Since I bought this book mostly for the graphics, I was well pleased. 176 pages total
